Deco-sign for a very special company; Apoc Aviation
APOC Aviation is a new, fast-growing company operating in the international "Aircraft Part Out" market. APOC purchases aircraft that are at the end of their commercial life. These aircraft are professionally disassembled and usable parts are offered to airlines around the world after overhaul and extensive external testing and certification. APOC sells or leases the parts to various service departments of many well-known airlines. From on-board computer and jet engine to complete landing gear.
APOC's success lies in its fresh new approach in which far-reaching automation plays a crucial role. APOC's volatile inventory is automatically updated every 5 seconds. All parts have unique bar codes to which the complete paperwork inextricably associated with each part is linked.
APOC's warehouse is fully conditioned and very tightly organized and secured. The company has sales offices in several countries and has its headquarters in Berkel en Rodenrijs, South Holland.
Last year we had the opportunity to provide the full signage for APOC Aviation's new headquarters. APOC has grown out of its premises in Delft in a very short time and has found a beautiful home in Berkel en Rodenrijs (ZH). Because APOC operates in a high-end segment of the industry, a professional presentation to its, mostly international, customers and visitors is very important. Trust is an important asset in the market in which APOC operates and the company does everything in its power to radiate and confirm this. APOC works with highly qualified people both in the office and in the logistics processes. The company wants to offer all its employees a pleasant and inspiring working environment.
SIZO was asked the question: Give our building the "look and feel" appropriate for a young, dynamic and international company? This had to go a little further than just a nice poster on the wall in the meeting room, we were told. SIZO project manager Sabina Vis first made an extensive inventory of what needed to be done. Outside, there was already quite a bit to do. Facade lettering, signage for logistics, parking and courier services. But the real challenge lay inside. Entrepreneur and owner Max Lutje Wooldrik is an inspired perfectionist and had definite ideas about what his new home base should look like.
No ordinary business premises
APOC's home base is no ordinary corporate building either. Because work is carried out in all time zones, APOC employees are present at the craziest times and, as a result, various facilities are needed. For example, in addition to the usual areas such as offices, meeting rooms and various logistics departments, these include a professional gym, a company restaurant, café and lounge area. All these spaces are decorated with sign materials in an aviation theme. For SIZO a wonderful project where the professional knowledge and experience of project manager, production staff and mechanics came into full play. The starting point was to use a wide variety of materials and techniques to keep it diverse and avoid repetition. In addition, the function of each space and its practical requirements were actively considered. We were able to combine this with beautiful images and mood creators.
Outdoor signs and wayfinding
White milling letters which contrast nicely with the dark blue facade panels. A large logo in black milled lettering is applied to the side wall to break up the large wall surface. An aluminum totem with signage at the corner of the property makes the building clearly locatable to visitors and carriers. Functional signage is applied to the facade by means of Dibond panels with clear printing.
Inside
The lobby was decorated with a 3D map and APOC logo milled out in 10-millimeter-thick PVC and then mounted on an APOC blue background. A beautiful "cockpit graphic" on seamless airtex wallpaper was also installed in the stairwell. In the executive office, an entire wall was fitted with sublimated tendon cloth in an Led frame. The diffusely illuminated graphic thus creates a special and pleasant atmosphere. The glass doors of the APOC pub are covered with sandblast effect glass foil to give the space an intimate character without completely isolating it, the walls are covered with a tendon cloth with warm nostalgic images specially designed and formatted by SIZO's DTP studio.
The boardroom required a special approach. Regularly, meetings take place with a good number of participants, often in different languages and also some people dialing in remotely. Acoustics are therefore very important in this room. The solution was found in the installation of a complete wall with acoustic tendon cloth. A large image that not only determines the atmosphere but also has a sound-absorbing effect and is easy to change if necessary.
The warehouse also received an upgrade. Often we see déco-signage limited to office or reception areas. Not so at APOC! Management's appreciation for its employees is reflected in all departments. In the large warehouse, the giant paternoster cabinets feature an almost life-size graphic printed on PVC panels. The huge size of this graphic is atmospheric in the logistics part of the APOC headquarters. This transforms a clinical warehouse at a stroke into an inspiring working environment.
The toilet doors are pasted with foil with a pop art graphic and fitted with an antibacterial laminate. That too has been thought out.
A wonderful project that perfectly showcases what is possible with déco-signage.
SIZO project manager Sabina Vis: "The great thing about this project was that the brief was very broad and we were given a free hand with the use of techniques and materials, but the entrepreneur did have a well-thought-out idea of what he wanted to achieve with the decoration of his business premises.
Entrepreneur and owner of APOC, Max Lutje Wooldrik: 'The end result has exceeded our expectations. The building inspires both employees and visitors and we regularly refer people to SIZO who want something similar in their own premises. The cooperation with SIZO was flawless; they listened carefully and understood us perfectly. Furthermore, SIZO completely unburdened us and everything was delivered on time and as agreed.
