Half of store focused on experience by 2025

By 2025, half of the store will be devoted to experiences. This is according to the How To Shop survey by retail real estate party Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield. Dutch consumers already believe that a third of the square meters should be devoted to experience.

How to shop

Experience, according to those surveyed, should come back into the store as a creative experience, meditation or something cultural like theater. In addition, a third want inspirational stores that encourage more creative use of products, and 39 percent say they would like personal help in the future in picking out the perfect product for themselves.

Enjoyment factor

The vast majority enjoy physical shopping and eighty percent would like to be able to browse freely through different collections. Two-thirds of those surveyed say stores are adapted to local traditions and customs. Half say they prefer local brands to non-local brands.

Finally, a third of those surveyed indicate an interest in more personalized offerings, especially when it comes to health solutions. If that means donating DNA to do so, one-third agree.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield builds the Mall of the Netherlands in Leidschendam. It also manages shopping centers in Almere, Zoetermeer and Amstelveen. The How To Shop survey was conducted among a thousand Dutch consumers.
