Sizo, the company with signs in its DNA
Sidney Zee has been involved with signs since a young age. As founder of Sizo, he looks back on a period of great experiences and great changes in the industry. Over the past 25 years, he has learned a lot about successfully running a sign business. He tells us more about the ins and outs of Sizo.
Where does this interest in signs actually come from?
It actually came from an early age; my father worked in the sign business. He was also involved in it from childhood. From the age of 16 to 18 I had my first job in signs, after that I worked with a business partner for a year and a half. Eventually I chose to start my own sign company. Sizo was born.
Can you talk a little about the power of signs?
Thanks to signs you can make your organization known to the outside world, make sure people see you and convey a certain message. We offer all kinds of signs: we make organizations, companies and stores stand out with letter advertising, billboards, banners, display materials, LED screens or a combination of these. Our signs can be used for various purposes, such as making a store or building stand out permanently, supporting a property opening, campaign or emphasizing a corporate identity.

As you mentioned, you've been doing signs for quite a long time. What changes have you seen coming along?
Whereas in the past in sign shops all paste and cut letters were made, cut and painted by hand, today you see that this has been digitized. Full-color printers and large-format printers were not around back then. In addition, neon lighting has given way to LED lighting and canvases with tube frames have been replaced by digital screens. In recent years, the market for signs has exploded.
And what do you think the future of signs looks like?
Even more digital, in public life you will see a lot more LED screens. Furthermore, I expect new applications in canteens, snack bars, stores and offices. It offers great opportunities for customers: prices and messages can be adjusted quickly and easily. A great opportunity to capitalize on this as a sign company!
The current corona crisis will also be a problem for a sign company. How will you deal with it?
We support our customers whenever possible. We are currently working on fixed solutions for offices and stores such as cough boards, stickers on the ground, vests, printed clothing and LED screens that we rent or sell. Signs contribute to security measures taken by the government.
